Valana Wells received a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University in 1985. After two years as a research scientist for the US Army, she joined the faculty in Aerospace Engineering at Arizona State University. She is currently a professor of Aerospace Engineering and serves as Associate Chair for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at ASU. Her research interests have spanned the fields of aeroacoustics, rotary-wing aerodynamics, computational acoustics and high-speed rotorcraft design.

Dr. Wells has had Clumber Spaniels since 1987. She actively participates in field and conformation events with her dogs. She has been active in international cooperation within the Clumber community, exchanging puppies and breeding stock with breeders in England, Canada, Sweden, Denmark and Australia.
